Use an interactive checklist widget on iPhone

Turn a short list into something you can act on from your Home Screen. Sticky Widgets supports checklist notes with tappable items on supported systems, so your next task can stay in view.

How to do it

  1. Create a list note

Add a note in Sticky Widgets and use its list mode. Enter one task per item rather than placing the entire list into a single line.

  2. Keep the first list short

Start with three concrete actions. ‘Send the invoice’ is easier to complete than a broad label such as ‘Work.’

  3. Show it on your Home Screen

Add a Sticky Widgets widget and select the list in its Note field. Choose enough space for the rows you need to see.

  4. Check an item

On a supported system, tap the checklist control for an item in the widget. Tap the note’s other content to open the editor when you need to add or rewrite items.

A short checklist to try

  • Send the invoice
  • Return the library books
  • Pack tomorrow’s lunch

Example text to enter in your own note.

A checklist item needs a finish line

Write each item as an action you can complete. A short, specific item is easier to recognize in a widget and easier to check off without opening a longer task-management system.

If a job has several parts, keep the next part on the widget and store the full plan elsewhere. The widget can remind you to draft an outline; it does not need every paragraph of the project brief.

Use the app for editing and longer lists

Interactive controls make a displayed list useful, but the widget remains a compact view. Open the note when you need to edit text, reorder the list, or review rows that do not fit.

If tapping opens the app rather than changing a checkbox, check your system version and whether the note is in list mode. Ordinary text notes do not become checklists simply because their sentences describe tasks.

Keep notifications separate

Checking an item and displaying a list do not schedule a time-based alert. If you need a notification at a particular time, use the separate Premium reminder feature and confirm notification permission.

Common questions

Is an interactive checklist the same as a Lock Screen note?

No. This guide starts with a Home Screen checklist. Premium pinning places a note in a Live Activity on the Lock Screen.

Can a long list show every item at once?

A widget has limited space. Choose a larger size, keep the next items near the top, or open the note to review the full list.

Can my partner edit the same checklist?

Sticky Widgets syncs your own devices through the same Apple Account. Collaborative editing between different people is not a supported workflow described here.
