Choose the right size for your sticky note widget

The best widget size is the one that makes your note easy to read where you need it. A tiny reference can fit in a small widget; a list with several rows benefits from more space.

How to do it

  1. Choose the content first

Write the note or list you need. Put its most useful words at the beginning and remove details you can look up elsewhere.

  2. Try a widget size

Find Sticky Widgets in your device’s widget gallery and browse the offered sizes. Start with medium for a short instruction or large for several checklist items.

  3. Select the note

Assign the note in Edit Widget. Judge the actual text on your Home Screen rather than only the gallery preview.

  4. Adjust the note or the placement

If the content is cramped, shorten it or choose a larger widget. Check the note’s text-size and rotation settings before making it smaller and harder to read.

A practical size guide

  • Small: a short phrase, one next step, or a compact reference.
  • Medium: a sentence or a short list beside other apps.
  • Large: several checklist rows or text that needs more room.
  • Extra large on supported iPads: a wider reading surface for your own short note or list.

More space does not require more content

A large widget with three clear priorities can be more useful than one filled edge to edge. Leave room for long words, a larger font, and the item you add later in the day.

For a packing or grocery list, put the next items at the top. A widget is a compact view of a note, so longer lists may require opening the app to see everything. It is not a replacement for a full-screen document.

Home Screen sizes differ from Lock Screen widgets

Small, medium, and large describe Home Screen placements. Lock Screen accessory widgets occupy compact system spaces and do not show the same amount of text.

Premium Live Activity pinning is another Lock Screen presentation, with a different layout and system-managed lifetime. Choose that guide when your goal is seeing a note before unlocking your phone.

Common questions

Why do I not see the extra-large option on iPhone?

That Home Screen size is offered on supported iPads. Use the sizes your iPhone gallery provides.

Can I make every long note fit by reducing the font?

You can adjust text size, but readability is usually better with shorter content or a larger widget. Open the note for details that do not fit.

Will a Lock Screen note look like the Home Screen screenshot?

No. Accessory widgets and pinned Live Activities use different layouts from ordinary Home Screen widgets.
