Put a packing checklist on your iPhone Home Screen

A packing widget gives your last few essentials a visible place while you move between bags, drawers, and travel apps. Start with the things you cannot easily replace, then add what matters for this particular trip.

How to do it

  1. Write essentials first

Create a list note called ‘Packing.’ Add the essentials for your trip, with each item in its own row.

  2. Separate last-minute items

Put items you pack at the last moment near the top, or make a second ‘Before leaving’ note for them.

  3. Add the widget

Select Packing in a medium or large Sticky Widgets Home Screen widget. Check that the most important rows are visible.

  4. Check items when they go in the bag

Use the checklist controls on a supported system as you pack. Open the note for a final full-list review before leaving.

Last things to pack

  • Passport or travel ID
  • Phone charger
  • Glasses
  • Water bottle

Separate packed items from intended items

Check an item when it is physically in the bag, rather than when you decide to bring it. A checklist is more useful when its marks describe what actually happened.

Write quantities for things that are easy to under-pack. ‘Three pairs of socks’ gives you a clearer check than ‘Clothes.’ Keep the wording short enough to recognize on a widget.

Use a second note for the departure moment

Some tasks are not packing tasks: turn off the lights, take the bins out, or pick up a key. Put them into a short departure checklist if mixing them with clothing makes the list harder to use.

Two separate notes can have two separate widgets. You can also change one widget’s note from Packing to Before leaving when the bag is ready.

Review the list in the app before you go

A compact widget may not display every row in a long packing list. Open the full note for a final review so a row outside the visible area is not mistaken for an empty list.

The example is a starting point, not a complete travel checklist. Adapt it to your destination, documents, and personal requirements. Sticky Widgets does not supply travel advice or automatically generate an itinerary.

Common questions

Can I reuse the note for another trip?

Yes. Keep and edit the note for the next trip, reviewing each item and its checked state yourself.

Will a pinned packing list stay on my Lock Screen for the whole trip?

A Premium pinned note uses a system-managed Live Activity. It may end or be dismissed, so keep the underlying note and a Home Screen placement available.

Can my family edit this packing list together?

Collaborative editing across separate accounts is not a supported workflow in these guides.
